Why Android First? (And When iOS is Coming)

Since announcing the beta, the most common question I've received is: "When is it coming to iPhone?" I want to be completely transparent about this.

The Technical Reality

Booklynx is built with Flutter, which is a fantastic technology that allows me to write code once and run it on both Android and iOS. The code itself is actually ready for iPhones right now!

However, Apple has a strict requirement: You must use a Mac to build and publish iOS apps.

The code is ready

Flutter compiles to native iOS code. The app would work on your iPhone today – I just can't build and publish it without Apple hardware.

The Hardware Hurdle

I am a solo developer working on this project in my free time. My development setup consists of Linux and Windows machines. I simply do not have access to a Mac at the moment, which means I physically cannot generate the file needed to put the app on the Apple App Store.

Being honest

I could pretend iOS is "coming soon" without a real plan. Instead, I'd rather be upfront: I need to invest in hardware I don't currently have.

How You Can Help

I am committed to bringing Booklynx to iOS, but I need to know that the demand is there before I invest in the necessary hardware.

I have set up a Feature Voting page. If you are an iOS user and you want Booklynx:

  1. Head over to the Voting Page.
  2. Vote for "iOS Support".

If that feature gets enough votes, I will know it's time to buy a Mac and get the iOS version into your hands.

Your vote matters

This isn't a marketing gimmick. The voting page directly influences my priorities. If iOS gets the most votes, it becomes my top priority.

Thank you for understanding, and for supporting indie development!
